Syrian Foreign Ministry: Syria opted to side with The Iraqi people. An official Foreign Ministry spokesman in the Syrian Arab Republic has made the following statement: On Sunday, US Secretary of State Colin Powell talked before the annual conference of the AIPAC, the most powerful Zionist lobby in the US. It was obvious from his words that he was offering an account on his latest achievements to confirm that what the US Administration is doing in our region serves Israel and its interests and plans and satisfies Sharon. By doing that, the US administration officials get a certificate of good behaviour from Israel and its supporters in the US. In this connection, Powell said that Syrian has to choose and be responsible for its choice, while Powell knows, as the world does, that Syria has chosen to be with the international legitimacy as represented by the UN and Security Council and its role in preserving world security and peace. Syria has chosen to be with the official and popular international unanimity which said:No to aggression on Iraq, No to the bombardment of cities and killing of innocent civilians and No to the bombardment of houses, power stations and water supplies. Syria has chosen to be also with the brotherly people of Iraq, who are facing an illegitimate and unjustified invasion, where all kinds of crimes against humanity are being committed against this steadfast people
